About Vance Alm

I grew up in Fargo, North Dakota.  My dad was a crane operator and my mom was a union bartender.

In 1967, my father was taken from us in a construction accident.  Thankfully, our government’s safety net caught my mom, my sister, and me when I was ten years old, rescuing us from poverty - Social Security afforded us an opportunity for safety and stability.  To this day, I am so grateful for the opportunities that were provided to my family by our country.

When I graduated from high school in 1974, I wanted to repay our country for the help it had given my family - I decided to enlist in the Army.

My service to our country through the army resulted in another benefit that was presented to me:  The GI Bill.  The GI Bill allowed me to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in 1981.  Once again, our country provided me with an amazing opportunity.

After graduating from college, I was compelled, once again, to serve our country to repay what it had given to me.  So I returned to serve in the Air Force.  While in the Air Force, the GI Bill helped me to obtain my Master’s degree as well in 1984.

After retiring from the military in 1994, I wanted to continue serving our country in a different capacity.  I put myself through medical school, and became a Family Practice doctor after graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno, Family Practice Residency Program in 2001.  I am privileged to continue to serve by providing medical care to my community, as well as teaching current medical students attending the UNR, School of Medicine.

Recently, I was able to help my oldest granddaughter, Lily, when she came to live with us for two years.  Lily helped me to think not only of her future, but of our country’s future as well.  This caused me to become politically involved; this is why I want to represent you, the citizens of Nevada, in Congress.  Together, we can provide our future generations a safe and secure America.

I will always be grateful to our country for helping me.  Now, it is my opportunity to help our country once more.
